Director-General of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ahmed Rufai has tendered his resignation to President Bola Tinubu.
The DG resigned on Saturday after a routine visit to the President to brief him on the activities of the agency.
Ahmed Rufai who spoke to State House correspondents about his resignation says “There are quite a number of reasons one will do that, some personal family issues, but nothing very serious, actually, and the friendship will continue.”
He said he discussed with the President, and he understands his decision to leave the government.
Rufai said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve. This is the 7th year the DG is serving in the position and he is the first official to resign under the administration of President Tinubu.
Rufai who is a retired career Foreign Service officer, was appointed as head of the country external intelligence agency by President Muhammadu Buhari on January 10, 2018.
