Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, has allayed fears that Nigeria will not meet the deadline for setting up the African Energy Bank headquarters in Abuja.
This follows concerns raised by members of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO).
Lokpobiri said this on Wednesday in Abuja after a meeting with the organization’s Secretary-General, Omar Faruk.
Other countries that bid for the headquarters had begun to call for a revisit of the matter, citing concerns that Nigeria would not meet the agreed deadlines and conditions.
However, Lokpobiri assured Faruk that Nigeria is committed to hosting the headquarters and is putting in place necessary measures to meet the deadline.
The African Energy Bank headquarters, a $5 billion energy hub, is expected to be domiciled in Nigeria.
