As the Twenty Twenty four/ Twenty Twenty five academic session for secondary and primary school pupils resumes across the nation, low turnout was witnessed in some of the public schools visited in Rivers State.

Some parents and school administrators who spoke to ait.live attributed the low turnout to the recent hike in the pump price of petrol which has resulted in high cost of transportation fare.

Some of the public schools visited by ait.live in Port Harcourt metropolis shows only a handful of students while the turnout in some private schools was a bit encouraging as parents lament the cost of transportation fare.

The negative impact caused by the increase in petrol pump price is not only taking a toll on public schools but also the private schools as Some administrators say if nothing is done fast to address the situation, they may not be able to cope.

For some parents the cost of transportation fare has forced them to withdraw their wards and enroll them in nearby schools.
