The ongoing conference of the Trade Union Congress, TUC of the United Kingdom has condemned the arrest and detention of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC President, Joe Ajaero.

In his opening speech at the start of the conference, TUC-UK General Secretary, Mike Clancy, warns that the action of the Nigerian Government has painted the country in bad light in its relationship with the Labour movement.

Ajaero was picked up by security operatives on Monday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on his way to the United Kingdom on the invitation of the TUC-UK.

Ajaero was eventually released late on Monday with some of his travel documents seized.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the National Executive Council meeting of the NLC has appreciated labour unions, local and international civil rights groups and indeed all Nigerians for the support which saw the release of Joe Ajaero.

In a statement by NLC Deputy President, Adeyanju Adewale, the NLC says it will neither waver nor relent in pushing for the good of the ordinary worker.
