Efforts at tackling arms deal by the Katsina State Community Watch Corp seem to be yielding results as the corp intercepts a commercial vehicle conveying 610 rounds of ammunition of both AK-47 and General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), with two magazines.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu, in a statement, revealed that the corps was said to have recorded the feat while acting on intelligence report in Batsari town of Batsari local government area of the state.
The vehicle which was intercepted was also conveying 17 passengers, made up of 13 males and 4 females, while the cache of ammunition was hidden under a seat.
Upon their interception, a suspect exhibited suspicious behaviour throughout the journey as he initially insisted on sitting at the rear of the vehicle and appeared visibly uncomfortable and anxious.
When the vehicle was stopped for inspection, the suspect managed to evade capture, leaving behind the concealed ammunition.
According to Mu’azu, efforts are ongoing to trace, track and arrest the suspect.
