The North East Development Commission, (NEDC), has released 200,000 bags of rice for victims of flood in North-Eastern states.
They include Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi and Taraba states.
The North East Development Commission, NEDC’s Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, presented the grains and other items to the states in Maiduguri.
Alkali listed other items to include, 150,000 cartons each of macaroni and spaghetti, and 250,000 gallons of vegetable oil.
Others include mats, blankets, mosquito nets and clothing materials for adults and children.
Alkali, who has just concluded a tour of some states affected by flood in the zone, said the support is part of immediate measures to assist the victims.
He said in view of the current massive flooding in Maiduguri, caused by the breakdown of Alau Dam, the commission had to act fast.
Alkali also said the commission has short and long term plans for the region, adding that the immediate support is a short term effort and
others will follow.
