Breakdown of law and order looms in Edo State as the Edo State House of Assembly has insisted that the State Security Network remains legal despite the announcement of its suspension by the Nigeria Police.
Majority Leader of the State Assembly, Charity Aiguobarueghian while briefing newsmen at the assembly complex in Benin City, said the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun lacks the constitutional power to take such action.
Egbetokun had announced the suspension of the Security Network ahead of the Edo Governorship Election scheduled for September 21.
The Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State had seen the action to suppress the party as the Governorship election holds next Saturday.
The majority leader insisted that members of the ESSN will be at the polling units to exercise their franchise.
He assured that the security network will continue to protect the people of Edo State despite the order of the police.
