Governor Lawal said the Centre played a vital role in Zamfara State’s emergence as the top-performing Northern State in the National Examination Council, NECO entrance exams for gifted students, with many of the students who scored the highest marks being from public schools.

Governor Lawal congratulated the students and their parents for bringing pride to Zamfara State, and he said that the remarkable performance was a positive indication that his administration’s declaration of state of emergency was not in vain.

He observed that in the past, Zamfara State was consistently at the bottom regarding education in Nigeria, and this is why he declared a state of emergency in the sector last year and embarked on renovation of more than 300 fully equipped schools across all 14 local governments.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wadatau Madawaki and Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board, Nasiru Anka outlined the factors responsible for the outstanding performance of the State gifted students in the last NECO entrance examinations.

Zamfara State which used to be at the bottom of the educational ladder placed second in the country after Anambra State which clinched the first position in the entrance examinations. Many ascribed the huge success to the state of emergency declared in the education sector which led to massive renovation, equipping of schools, provision of infrastructure and training of teachers by the Governor Dauda Lawal administration.
