Sokoto State will on Saturday, September 21, 2024, hold its Local Government Council elections in which about 2.17 million registered voters are expected to choose the Chairmen and Councillors to pilot the affairs of the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.
When elected, the Council officials are to serve for three-year terms, following the recent amendment to the State Local Government law 2009.
The Council polls are scheduled to hold simultaneously in all the 23 Local Government Areas and 244 wards of the State.

All eyes will however be on the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), headed by Alhaji Aliyu Sulaiman, to walk its talk by providing a level playing ground for all the political parties involved in the statewide exercise.
The SIEC Chairman and his entire team were appointed by the immediate past administration of Senator Aminu Tambuwal of then ruling PDP in the State, now the main opposition political party in Sokoto State.
The PDP in the State is however boycotting the polls.
