NIGER
Niger State Governor, Umar Bago

There was no Independence day celebration on the part of the Niger State Government just as the planned #EndBadGovernance protest did not resume in Minna, the State capital.

Students of the Police Secondary School Minna however rolled out the drum to mark the National Day.

It was a special celebration as the maiden Miss Independence reviewed the parade formed by her colleagues at the school parade ground.

In her address, the 2024 Pioneer Miss Independence, Faizah Yahaya acknowledged the struggle made by past leaders, especially women, for the attainment of the country’s freedom in 1960 hence, the Federal Government should recognise them.

For the School’s Commandant, Superintendent Haruna Ibrahim, the Force Education Headquarters should endeavour to make it an annual event at the various Police schools across the country to inculcate the spirit of unity in diversity among students.

This, according to the organisers, will further unite the country as the students in the schools are from diverse tribes and regions, which the country needs at this trying time.

Meanwhile, reacting to President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day broadcast, SP Ibrahim urged Nigerians to be patient and hopeful as there will be a light at the end of the tunnel soon.

The Maiden Miss Independence Day celebration witnessed a colourful silent parade by the students, Independence Day poems as well and other side attractions.
