Wife of Abia State governor, Pricilla Otti, says perpetrators of gender based violence should expect dire consequences if apprehended as there is no longer room for gender based violence (GBV) in the state.

Pricilla Otti gave the assurance , when she visited a housewife, Amarachi Okpokiri, whose husband attempted to pluck off her eyes early last month in Umuahia, the state capital.

The Abia governor’s wife has taken measures including public awareness campaign to end the menace of gender based violence in the state alongside security agencies, civil society organisations, religious bodies, and the state government.

The governor’s wife during her visit to the 38-year-old-Amarachi Okpokiri who escaped death by the whiskers after a knife attack by her husband resulting in severe injuries to her eyes and body, warned that the state is rapidly becoming hostile and an unfriendly environment for anyone or groups involved in gender based violence, particularly against women, girl-child, and children in general.

Amarachi, a teacher with a private school in the state capital, appreciated the timely intervention of the First Lady after the unfortunate incident. She
reassured Amarachi of the Abia state government’s commitment to her full recovery.
