Voting for LG elections in Akwa-Ibom State
Registered voters in Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria are voting in the local government council elections for 31 chairmanship positions and 368 councilorship seats.

The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission, AKSIEC deployed election materials early in some areas while in others there were slight delays.

There has been impressive turnout of voters in some polling units but others recorded voter apathy.

In Rivers State, also in South-South Nigeria, the local council elections did not commence in most of the polling units visited until 9.48am. It was observed that the delay in some of the polling units was due to absence of result sheets.

Most of the voters who spoke to AIT.live described the exercise as more peaceful than previous elections that had security presence

It will be recalled that the Nigeria Police Force is not providing security for the conduct of the LG election in Rivers State following judgement of the Federal High Court Abuja that restrained them from doing so.
