Underground Duplex identified as hideout for kidnappers demolished by Enugu state Government

The Enugu State Government has demolished yet another building identified as a hideout for kidnappers.

The demolition on Saturday, targeted an underground Duplex located in Amajor Owelli, Awgu Local Government Area of the State.

This is the second demolition exercise in just two months by the Enugu State Government, as part of ongoing campaign against criminal activities.

The current demolition is on an underground duplex stuck in the quiet Amabor Obodo Asa Community in Owelli, along the Old Enugu – Port Harcourt Expressway, and the property is said to be owned by a local indigene.

Reports suggest that the owner, who lives in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State, had entrusted the house to his in-law. However, the in-law passed the keys to his younger brother, a member of the community’s neighborhood watch, but allegedly turned the building into a base for kidnapping operations.

Local resident, Clifford Johnson, whose shop is directly across from the building, is shocked at the revelation of kidnapping activities taking place at the building, though admits that the suspect had been acting suspiciously.

The State government maintains that the structure was demolished based on evidence indicating it was used for kidnapping.

Invoking its Criminal Code Law to justify the demolition, the Enugu State Government is
insisting that the decision to raze the building, rather than repurpose it for other uses, is intended to serve as a deterrent to others considering similar criminal activities.
