The Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Anugbum Onuoha, has denied allegations made by the State chaper of the All Progressive Congress, APC, that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, smuggled BVAS machines and Voters Register into the state headquarters of INEC in Benin City.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, in a statement released this Friday, revealed that a thorough investigation and review carried out on the allegations proved to be baseless, unsubstantiated, and without merit.

He said the commission maintains a steadfast commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process, noting that the BVAS machines and Voters Register were at no time compromised or unlawfully accessed by any political party or external entity.

Anugbum Onuoha noted that the commission is in full compliance with a recent court order, directing the inspection of electoral materials, including BVAS and voters register.

He appeals to all political actors to focus on democratic principles and avoid actions or rhetorics that may undermine public confidence in the Electoral system.

Onuoha reiterated INEC’s unwavering commitment to neutrality, excellence in electoral administration, and preservation of democracy and the rule of law in Edo State and Nigeria at large.
