Zamfara Governor’s Wife leads charge to revamp education

The Wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hurriya Lawal says her husband, Dauda Lawal’s administration is determined to break the barriers that historically prevents girls from excelling in Science education in the State.

The Governor’s Wife stated this during an event to Mark International Day of the Girl Child in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, where she disclosed that she will lead the symbolic unveiling and equipping of one school, with one modern laboratory facility, as part of efforts to enhance learning for Girls.

Zamfara State in Northwest Nigeria has been backwards in the education development, with low girls enrollment in schools and poor performance in science education.

The Governor Dauda Lawal-led administration says it is poised to breaking the barriers which have hindered girls Improvement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics by equipping them with the tools needed to participate actively in shaping their future.

The wife of the Zamfara State Governor Hurriya Lawal called for inclusive opportunities for girls and she assured that the administration will invest in science education to advance girl child education and Empowerment in line with it broader role.

The Commissioner For Women and Children Affairs, Nafisa Maradun revealed that there are laws and programmes in place to ensure the girl child is protected from any form of abuse in Zamfara.

The coordinator of Adolescent Girls Initiative For Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), Project Sa’adatu Abdul Gusau stated that the AGILE Project planned to construct 42 new Secondary schools, renovate and reconstruct 441 schools and Learning centres across the State aimed at expanding opportunities and create conductive environment for quality education of girls.

The Governor’s Wife Hurriya Lawal described the International Day of the Girl Child as a significant moment to reflect and reaffirm the commitment to the girl child and her access to quality education and resources to participate meaningful in the State future.
