Customs Seize Donkey Meat, Other Items Worth N323m In Kebbi

The Kebbi State Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has seized nine sacks of 180 pieces of donkey meat and other prohibited items worth N333million within the 3rd quarter of 2024.

This was disclosed during a press conference by the Customs area Controller of the Command, Mr Iheanacho Ojike held at the Command’s Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.

The Controller mentioned other seizured items which includes; bales of secondhand clothings, liters of Premium Motor Spirit PMS, Cartons of different medicaments, bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50Kg each, liters of Oxidized Nitric Acid of 35kg each and 1 unit of DAF truck and Toyota Corolla as means of conveyance, among others.

According to him, 5 suspects have been arrested in connection with the seizures and they have been granted administrative bail in compliance with the provision of the constitution pending further investigation and proper trial of their case.

Ojike further disclosed that the Command within the policy thrust of Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi of Consolidation, innovation and collaboration, will handover the seized items to Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services ( NAQS) and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration ( NAFDAC) respectively for necessary action.

He noted that the Command has the zeal of making Kebbi State free from any smuggling activities .
