Edo Tragedy: Renowned Community OsholoUkpi Drummer Killed by Suspected Kidnappers

A community in Agenebode Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State is in mourning following the gruesome murder of a community leader, Ikhamteh Akhumhele.

The murdered Akhumhele, a community leader and the Ukpi traditional drummer in Osholo was said to have been murdered in the wee hours of Saturday by unknown persons along the Iviukwe road.

A post on a WhatsApp platform named the Security Situation Room that caught the attention of journalists, the incident which the community suspects to be the handiwork of herdsmen has left the people in shock, grief and outrage as the Ukpi drummer was a respected figure in Osholo, and Uwanno Kingdom at large due to his vibrant performances that brought joy and unity to the community.

The community is demanding justice for the Ukpi Drummer and called on the inspector General of Police to take swift action against the perpetrators since there were no police personnel in Agenebode Town, following a recent attack at the police station in the community.

Meanwhile the command has confirmed the incident saying that it received the report and has commenced investigation.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO of the command, Joel Yamu on Sunday morning,the command is meeting with Community Leaders over the unfortunate incident while tactical teams have been deployed to comb the crime scene and surroundings for possible arrest of the suspects.

This is even as the Deputy Police Officer sharing boundaries with that area has also been alerted on the matter to be on the look out for the suspects.

The PPRO also said that the Command will appreciate any information from members of the public that could help the police in fishing out the perpetrators.
