The Arewa Youths for Peaceful Coexistence has urged Islamic scholars to reconsider their stance on recent criticisms directed at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nysom Wike following his decision to disband begging within Abuja.

In a statement by the Chairman Arewa Youths for Peaceful Coexistence, Abuja Chapter Mark Okpanachi Ogah, described begging in the FCT as a lucrative but embarrassing trade that spans across ethnic lines in the nation.

According to the statement, the decision by the Minister to disband beggars in Abuja should be seen as a step toward enhancing security, upholding decency, and preserving the dignity of the city.

The Arewa Youths organization emphasized that the anti-begging measure is not intended to target any specific group and pointed out that the act of begging is discouraged in Islam.

“The Holy Quran and Islamic teachings discourage begging as a trade”The group called for calm and understanding from religious leaders, noting that the move aims to create a secure and respectable environment in the FCT.

The group further reiterated it support for policies that foster peaceful coexistence and uphold the reputation of the Federal Capital.
