Lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh Arraigned For Assault On Bolt Driver

Alex Ikwechegh, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives has pleaded not guilty to the charge of abuse of office, assault, and threat to life filed against him by the Inspector General Police.


Ikwechegh was seen in a now-viral video abusing a driver with e-hailing service Bolt, whom he accused of being rude to him.
He had threatened to make the driver disappear and bragged that nothing could happen to him.

On Tuesday, he tendered an apology for his actions before the house plenary session and his matter was moved to the ethics committee for investigation.

But on Wednesday, he was arraigned before a chief magistrates court in the Kuje area of the Federal Capital Territory where he pleaded his innocence to the three counts.


He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with sureties in like sum who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
Further hearing has been fixed for November 8, 2024.
