Just In: JOHESU/AHPA Suspends Strike, Issues Fresh 6-Week Deadline On MoU

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA), have suspended their 7-day warning strike, effective midnight of Thursday, October 31, 2024.

The 7-day warning strike, which started on Friday, October 25, 2024, grounded activities in Federal health institutions.

Top among the health workers demands is the payment of Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, which was agreed upon since 2014.

The suspension of the strike is contained In a communique at the end of its expanded National Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Thursday, October 31, which was signed by the National Chairman, Kabiru Ado Minjibir and the National Secretary, Martin Egbanubi.

Arising from the meantime, the health workers issued a fresh 7-week timeline, within which the Federal government is expected to implement all items in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) entered, after meetings with Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment officials on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, and another on October 30, 2024 with the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Development.

The health workers said they will embark on an indefinite strike at the expiration of the 7 weeks, in the event that their demands are not met.
