Over 5000 youths in six states of the Hydroelectric Power Generation Areas have so far received training and start-up kits in various skills.

The Managing Director of Nigeria Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission Abubakar Yelwa made this known during the presentation of starter packs to 365 graduates of the youth transformation program in Jos the Plateau state capital.

These youths are part of the first batch of trainees who have undergone intensive training on skills that will enable them to make a living and make a difference in their communities.

Abubakar Yelwa said the initiative was borne out of the desire of the commission to address the high level of unemployment in communities in the power producing areas.

Representative of the secretary to the Federal Government Simon Tyungu urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the gesture to transform their lives.

The Plateau state Governor represented by his deputy Josephine Piyo said the state government will keep a close tab on the graduates to monitor their progress.

The youths acquired skills in animal husbandry, CCTV installation, carpentry, and cosmetology.
