As the festive season approaches, the Bauchi Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), is sounding an alarm on motorists and passengers on two critical road safety issues: overloading and overspeeding on major highways in Bauchi State.

The Sector Commander of the Corps in Bauchi State, Istifanus Ibrahim, gave the indication while briefing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat in Bauchi, on behalf of the Corps Marshall.

The festive period is synonymous with increased travel and associated with heightened risks on the highways, due to overloading and overspeeding.

As overloading menaces on Nigerian roads claim countless lives annually, the FRSC is warning motorists and passengers about exceeding approved capacity, and compromise stability that has significantly increased the risk of crashes on Nigerian roads.

The secretary of the Road Transport Workers, Bauchi State Branch, who was at the briefing, promised to take the message to his members, but mentioned that some of the motorists are not registered members of the union.

According to the FRSC, in order to enhance more awareness on the challenges at hand, plans are underway for campaigns, where some locations have been identified for motorists and passengers.
