The president of Kano State Civil Society Forum, Ibrahim Waiya, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari, not to assent to an electoral bill that makes no provision for electronic transmission of elections results by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The forum president and some residents of the state believe the country is ripe for electronic voting that will make the votes of every Nigerian count.

Ibrahim Waiyas described the action of the legislators who voted against the transmission of election results electronically as a setback to the electoral process of the country.

He further stated that electronic transmission of election results will save the country from vote-buying, ballot snatching, and inclusive elections.

Waiya wants national assembly members and president Muhammadu Buhari to be patriotic by allowing electronic transmission of election results.

While the debate continues, Nigerians are hoping that the electoral umpire will be given the mandate to discharge its responsibilities without interference.
