The Kano State Watershed, Erosion, and Climate Change Management Agency (KN-WECCS) has validated Kano State’s Climate Change Policy.

The validation encompassed several stakeholders from different sectors of Kano State Government, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, as well as partners and Civil Society Organisations, as inputs were collected on how to develop climate change policy in the state.

The Agency is under the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF),

The initial stakeholder engagement on the Kano State Climate Change Policy started in February 2024.

The Executive Secretary of Kano State Watershed, Erosion and Climate Change Management Agency, Muhammad Khalid, highlighted that the policy would be adopted for the benefit of the people of Kano State.

The UNICEF WASH Programme Officer, Kano Field Office, and the state Team Lead for Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement, (PACE), reiterated their commitment to partner with and support Kano Government in tackling the impact of climate change.

After the validation meeting, the policy would be presented to Governor Abba Kabir.
