Wife of Nigeria’s President Oluremi Tinubu Empowers Ebonyi Women, Appeals Against Foods Price Hike

Wife of Nigeria’s President Oluremi Tinubu

Wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has appealed to women traders to reduce the prices of their commodities and wares in the spirit of hospitality which the country is known for.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu made the appeal in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital during the Grand finale of the 2024 Ebonyi Women Week with the theme “uplifting women for sustainable development”

It was the first official visit of the wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to Ebonyi State, South East Nigeria, since her husband assumed office in 2023.

The reception ceremony on arrival at the Chuba Okadigbo International and Cargo Airport, Onueke, showcased the hospitality of the Salt State.

The visit came barely 24 hours after Abakaliki played host to 23 of the 36 States Governors’ wives who held their Forum’s annual retreat.

Mrs Tinubu who was visibly impressed with the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru and wife, Uzoamaka for the number of women in public office, remarked that the governor has exceeded the 35% Women affirmative action in the State.

The wife of the President who also commended the Ebonyi State first lady for her numerous programmes which have positive impacts on the wellbeing of the people of Ebonyi especially women and children, however made a special appeal to women traders in the markets to reduce the prices of their commodities especially food items during the yuletide.

The hosts, Governor Francis Nwifuru and his wife, Uzoamaka praised the efforts of Nigeria’s First lady in uplifting women gender, while describing the contributions of women to the sustenance of democracy and good governance, as invaluable.

Apart from the disbursement of several empowerment items, Senator Oluremi Tinubu also flagged-off the N1million each trader and business empowerment to 130 women in Ebonyi State, a programme of the State government.

Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima; Wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hajiya Fatima Tajude-Abbas; and about 25 States Governors’ wives, were among top government officials who graced the event.
