Civil society activists from the global south countries are calling for a fossil fuel non- proliferation treaty that will put an end to unchecked proliferation of fossil fuel companies and the toxic emissions they produce.
The activists who spoke on the sidelines of the ongoing Climate Change conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan expressed worry that the annual summits have turned out to be an arena of talking without real actions to secure a livable future for all.

They blame countries in the Global North who have been running fossil fuel dependent economies for decades as being responsible for the climate crisis that everyone faces and are therefore demanding payment of climate debt estimated at about 5 trillion dollars to cover losses suffered by the global South.
COP 29 provides yet another opportunity to right the perceived wrongs and ensure a just and equitable transition to Renewable Energy as agreed by parties in previous COPs.
