Contractors handling the construction and rehabilitation of four critical Federal roads in Kaduna State have attributed inadequate funding and insecurity, as the major reasons for the slow pace of work.

Their concerns were raised during an inspection tour by a team from the Ministry of Works.

The inspection tour, led by Goni Mohammed, Director 1 of Highways, Northwest, covered key projects in Kaduna, including the Eastern Bypass Road, Pambeguwa-Jos Road, Zaria-Funtua-Sokoto Road, and the Western Bypass Road.

The tour uncovered a combination of progress in some areas, and significant challenges in others.

At Section 1 of the Zaria-Funtua-Sokoto Road, a stark reality emerged: only nine percent of the work has been completed.

Contractors are clear that without improved funding and enhanced security, the 2027 completion deadline might be out of reach.

The Ministry of Works faces a daunting challenge in addressing insecurity and funding issues, while meeting the expectations of millions dependent on the roads.

The clock is ticking.

With July 2027 set as the target for completion; will the Ministry and contractors overcome these obstacles, or will the dream of rehabilitated roads in Kaduna face further delays? only time will tell
