Host Communities/Oil Firm Disputes: Gov Oborevwori Solicits Dialogue

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has called on Oil companies in the state and their host communities to embrace dialogue in resolving their disputes.

Governor Oborevwori gave this charge when he received the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited led by its Senior Corporate Affairs Advisor, Esimaje Brikins.

Governor Oborevwori congratulated Brikins for his new appointment and tasked his successor to understudy workable operations and relationship with host communities and Stakeholders. He stressed that he would not tolerate oil companies oppressing the people a situation he said usually led to shutting down oil facilities.

According to the governor, the best option for the new, man was to acquaint himself with the history of Chevron that made them outlive others having had their presence in the state for the past 50 years.

Governor Oborevwori described the operations of oil companies as a win-win situation whereby everyone’s rights should be upheld for easy governance.

Earlier, Brikins extolled leadership qualities of Oborevwori administration which he said benefitted Chevron operations, the state, and the country’s economy through job creation.

According to Brikins, Chevron has an ongoing drilling program where they have committed about $1.4 billion US dollars.
