The Port Harcourt Petroleum Refinery in Rivers State has resumed operations, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. The refinery has commenced processing 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL,Femi Soneye confirmed that the refinery has commenced production at 60% capacity.

The refinery, with a combined capacity of 250,000 barrels per day, is expected to significantly boost Nigeria’s refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.

The resumption of operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery is a welcome development for the Nigerian economy, which has been grappling with the challenges of fuel scarcity and dependence on imported petroleum products.

The refinery’s restart is also expected to create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and increase government revenue. Industry experts have hailed the development as a major breakthrough in Nigeria’s quest to become self-sufficient in petroleum production.

The Port Harcourt Refinery is one of Nigeria’s four state-owned refineries, which have been plagued by years of neglect, mismanagement, and lack of investment.
