Naval Authorities blame Kogi boat accident on breach of safety protocols

The Nigerian Navy says the major cause of the recent boat mishap that claimed dozens of lives in Kogi State was caused by breach of safety protocol in the water ways.

The Commander, Nigeria Navy Ship NNS Lugard Lokoja, Commodore Tamuno Senibo, said this during a free medical service in Kungbani, under Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The boat mishap in Kupa, in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State claimed over 50 lives.

To avert a repeat of such incidents, the Commander, Nigeria Navy Ship, NNS Lugard Lokoja Commodore Tamuno Senibo told unions in the water transportation sector to insist on passengers using life jacket and other safety paraphernalia before boarding the water ways.

Commodore Senibo noted that the free medical Rhapsody was part of the non kinetic packages of the Navy towards providing security in Kogi State.

He assured the public that the Nigerian Navy Ship NNS Lugard will continue to synergize with other sister security agencies to ensure peace and security in Kogi State and its environs.
