The Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu has pledged comprehensive overhaul of the Obubra National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp, following years of public outcry over its deplorable condition and its impact on corps members’ welfare.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youths Development, Ijom Ukam at the swearing-in ceremony of 1,050 Batch C Stream 1 Corps Members comprising 750 males and 400 females, the Governor described the well-being and safety of corps members as a non-negotiable priority for his administration.

Governor Bassey Otu assured that the camp will soon receive the attention it urgently needs, signaling a decisive step towards addressing its long-standing neglect.

He also charged the corps members to use their one-year service period to acquire skills and experiences that will not only prepare them for future challenges but also contribute meaningfully to national development.

The Cross River State NYSC Coordinator, Oyenuga Joke commended the state government for its continued support but did not mince words about the dire state of the Obubra camp.

The governor’s commitment to revamping the camp highlights a broader strategy to prioritize Youths development, while also reinforcing the state’s dedication to ensuring the NYSC scheme operated in an environment that fosters safety, learning, and productivity.
