German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier Commits To ECOWAS On Fight Against Terrorism, Violent Extremism

German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier has pledged Germany’s unwavering support to the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS, in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, as partners who respect each other’s choices.

Steinmeier said this when he paid an official visit to the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja as part of his tour to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 53rd session of the ECOWAS mediation and security Council,
Steinmeier praised ECOWAS’ achievements and commitment to achieving its goals and vision and said that Germany and Europe would continue to stand by the Regional bloc in its quest for integration.

The aim of the meeting is to strengthen cooperation between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Federal Republic of Germany.

Steinmeier, accompanied by a strong delegation from the German government, was received by the president of ECOWAS Commission Omar Alieu Touray and the management of the Institution.
