The wife of Bauchi State Governor, Aisha Bala, has joined the international community to mark the 2024 edition of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, (GBV), and the International Day of Persons With Disabilities.

The governor’s wife, in her speech, advocated for perfect alignment towards building a society where everyone, irrespective of challenges, has access to equal rights and opportunities.

Worried about the scourge of gender-based violence in Bauchi State, and in the world, the governor’s wife held a first-of-its-kind town hall engagement with religious clerics, persons with disabilities, secondary school children and women’s groups to deliberate on the rising issues.

One after another, the religious clerics spoke in the perspective of religion, and said the situation is becoming a pandemic that needs an urgent approach, considering the cases available.

On their parts, some persons living with disabilities, while speaking on the International Day of Disability, advocated for the inclusion of their members in the scheme of things, saying there is a need for introducing sign language in all television stations in Nigeria.

Aisha Bala, reiterated her commitment to issues of Gender Based Violence, saying that she has vowed that anyone found committing the act will be dealt with, as a committee has been set up under her watch.

In commemoration of the Sixteen Days of Activism and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the governor’s wife, in partnership with other development partners, empowered over 1,000 people with small-scale business starter packs and wheelchairs, as well as cash donations to persons living with disabilities.
