The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Mayirenso Saraso, says the division’s successes in tackling security challenges in 2024 are a cause for gratitude and celebration.

Speaking at the West African Social Activities (WASA) 2024 event, he highlighted the restoration of safety to key areas, particularly the previously dangerous Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road.

The West African Social Activities celebration, an annual tradition, provides an opportunity for the army to reflect on achievements, and strengthen bonds with host communities.

Major General Saraso described 2024 as a challenging year due to heightened security concerns but noted the division’s efforts have significantly reduced criminal activities in the region.

This has created a safer environment and an opportunity for the army to celebrate with their families and communities.

Looking ahead to 2025, Major General Saraso assured the public of the division’s commitment to furthering its successes, maintaining peace, and ensuring the security of its jurisdiction.

Governor Uba Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Internal Security, James Kanyip, pledged greater support to the military in the coming year to sustain and enhance their operations.

The WASA 2024 event featured various activities, including cultural dances, tug of war, and the presentation of awards to soldiers for their exceptional service.
