A Magistrate Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has ordered the remand of one Chima Eseni Etta, for allegedly killing his wife of over 16 years in a domestic violence which occurred on September 4, 2024.
Arraigned in Court for the first time since his arrest by the Police, the accused did not take his plea as the presiding Magistrate, Chinedu Agama only went through the case file, before adjourning the matter to 31st December, 2024 for a report of compliance.
Magistrate Agama had directed that the case file be forwarded to the office of the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for necessary information and legal advise.
The Court thereafter ordered that the accused person be remanded in the custody of the Abakaliki Correctional Service Center.
The Prosecution lawyer, Monday Aloh, and the Vice Chairperson of FIDA in Ebonyi State, Serah Chukwu said the prosecution have made necessary applications to the Court as required by law.
But the defence counsel, Chibuzor Onuoha refused to speak to the Media at the Court premises, choosing to remain silent on the matter.
Court records sighted by AIT, showed that the deceased was a victim of what investigators linked to domestic violence incident. Ugochukwu Chima was a mother of three, who had been married to the accused person for about 16 years before her death on 24th October, 2024, following injuries allegedly sustained during a fight at their residence in Abakaliki.
