As part of her Renewed Hope Initiative, 250 elderly persons aged 65 and above have benefitted from the wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu’s Elderly Support Scheme in Niger State.

The theme of the social investment programme, which is aimed at providing financial assistance to elderly citizens is, “Total Wellness: A Happy, Healthy, And Prosperous Lifestyle.”

Some of the beneficiaries of the programme expressed shock over the amount received, while others said it would assist them in the health conditions they are battling.

The beneficiaries, while praying for the wife of the president, also called on wealthy individuals to emulate the gesture, especially in this period of economic hardship Nigerians are passing through.

Distributing the cash to the beneficiaries on behalf of the wife of the President, Fatima Bago, who is the Niger State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, said the essence is not only to celebrate the elderly, but to give them a sense of belonging.

She noted that the beneficiaries were randomly selected, and that they are operating a data-based system, to avoid the repetition of beneficiaries, yearly.

The amount is said to have been increased from 100 thousand Naira per beneficiary to 200 thousand naira after the governing board of the Renewed Hope Initiative reviewed it, to provide further support to the elderly citizens, during this year’s festive season.
