13 persons living with disabilities have received starter packs in various skills for life programs in Niger State.
The empowerment by Leprosy Mission Nigeria is to get them off the streets and become self-reliant.
The 13 persons empowered are the best among those selected during training organized by Leprosy Mission Nigeria.
The starter packs include washing machines, sewing machines, desktop computers, and cosmetology equipment.
The beneficiaries, while pledging to make judicious use of the items, said they would not only take them off the streets but also make it possible for them to assist others and their families.
Niger State State program officer, Leprosy Mission Nigeria, Habila Dikko expressed optimism that with more funding, the empowerment will be expanded.
The state government on its part, pledged to collaborate with the mission to ensure people living with disabilities are adequately cared for.
Niger is said to have about 400,000 persons living with disabilities according to records available in the state.
