TAX
SENATOR AHMED WADADA

Northerners in Nigeria have again been advised to look deep into the tax reform bills of the current administration as they will bring about development in the region and nation as a whole.

Senator Ahmed Wadada, representing Nasarawa West under the SDP, who said this in Keffi, Nasarawa State dismissed claims suggesting that President Bola Tinubu is fighting the North, adding that the North has the capacity to fight back any unfair decision.

Senator Wadada, noted that with all the positive interventions by the Tinubu administration in the North, such as the continuation of the AKK pipeline project, revocation and re-awarding of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road, Sokoto-Badagry super highway, the commitment in tackling insecurity amongst others, the President can not be fighting the same region simply because he is introducing tax reforms.

Wadada, who doubles as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Accounts, maintained that the fears emanating from the intended reforms are unnecessary.

He pointed out that grey areas in the tax reform bills lying before the Senate could be addressed through consultations.

Senator Wadada attributed the outcries against the reforms to the general tendency of resisting change.

He agreed that the tax reform bills are not perfect but the desire for fairness in the sharing of VAT which has been the major contention must not be jettisoned.

The tax reform bills have been a subject of debate in various quarters since its introduction by president Bola Tinubu.
