Economic and business activities have been grounded at the Eleme Onne section of the East West Road, following a protest embarked upon by the people of Ogoni and youths in the Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The people have vowed to continue with the protest until the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Goodwill Akpabio, mobilizes contractors to site or return the contract of the road, to the Presidential Infrastructural Development Fund PIDF, for speedy implementation.

The protest which started on Monday, have left vehicles stranded, as some of the Protesters were seen lying on the road.
In an interview with ait.live, the people say they have suffered untold hardships plying the route and there was the urgent need for the federal government to fix the deplorable section of the road.
The Eleme Onne section of the East West Road, which leads to various government critical Economic establishments, was left unattended to for many years hence the people say they have taken their destiny into their hands by carrying out the protest.
On the 7th of July 2021, the people of Ogoni had issued a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government to fix the road, but till date, no action has been taken.
