Real Madrid secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey on Thursday after an exciting 5-2 win over Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
The match started on high note as Real Madrid took a commanding 2-0 lead in the second half, with French striker Kylian Mbappé scoring in the 37th minute, followed by Brazilian forward Vinícius Júnior’s goal 11 minutes after the break.
However, Celta Vigo equalised with goals from Ivorian forward Jonathan Bamba and Spanish defender Marcos Alonso. Bamba struck in the 37th minute, while Alonso converted a penalty in the 48th minute, setting up an intriguing contest.
In the second extra time, Real Madrid took control once again. Brazilian forward Endrick scored a brace, in the 3rd and 14th minutes of the extra time. Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde also added a goal in the 7th minute, sealing the win for the home team.
With the victory, Real Madrid joined Valencia, Leganés, Getafe, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Osasuna, and Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals, with the competition now heating up for the converted title.
