Ebonyi State Government, southeast Nigeria has handed over seven of its public schools to the Catholic Church in the state.

The selected schools include, King David Gifted Academy, the Vocational College, and the three Ebonyi State government owned Technical Colleges located in Afikpo, Agba, and Abakaliki.

Also to be administered by the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki are two other educational institutions – the King David University Primary School, as well as the Uburu Special Science School, situated at Uburu, Governor Umahi’s home community.

Government officials, and a representative of the Catholic Church, Revered Father Abraham Nwali, signed and exchanged the relevant documents, to mark the official hand over, and take over of the schools.

The exercise was conducted at the ground breaking ceremony and blessing of the permanent site of King David Gifted Academy, at the Ochoudo Centenary City, Abakaliki.

Governor Dave Umahi said, the hand over of the running of the schools to the Catholic Church was informed by the fact that the denomination had been outstanding in the management of the education sector.

The Governor however noted that government is opening the doors to other religious denominations, that may be willing to take over some of the schools.

Umahi observed that part of the problems in the society today, is that the educational morals, brought by the missionaries have been
abandoned.
