The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is set to arraign a former Executive Secretary of National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Usman Yusuf over allegations of 4 billion naira fraud during his tenure.

The former NHIS Boss will be arraigned this thursday at the FCT High Court sitting in Kuje.

Sources close to the EFCC say Operatives of the Anti- Graft Agency raided the Abuja home of the former NHIS Boss, Usman Yusuf and arrested him in his house in the presence of his wife and children at about 4:30 p.m on wednesday.

The arrest followed an ongoing investigation into an allegation that Yusuf inflated ICT budget from 4.975 billion naira to N8.7 billion naira and approved payments beyond his approval limit.

Documents seen by Journalists revealed that EFCC is also investigating Yusuf for awarding contracts to family members.

Yusuf awarded contracts to Lubekh Nigeria Limited, a company where his nephew Khalifa Hassan Yusufu is a director.

The Sources added that the former NHIS Boss is also being held for financial mismanagement, abuse of office for allegedly using his position for personal gains, including approving contracts without due process and awarding contracts to companies without competence.

It was gathered that investigation into the allegations was prompted by a petition dated 31 October, 2018, signed by an Attahiru Ibrahim.

The petition alleged fraudulent practices and impunity perpetrated by Prof. Usman Yusuf during his tenure as Executive Secretary of NHIS.
