Nurses, Midwives Down Tools In Ondo State Over Salary Discrepancies, Poor Welfare

Nurses and Midwives across public health institutions in Ondo State, Southwest part of Nigeria have embarked on indefinite strike over discrepancies in salary structures, and welfare issues of members.

Ondo State Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Felix Orobode while addressing Journalists in Akure the State capital on Thursday said the action is sequel to the refusal of the State government to attend to their various demands.

Orobode listed the demands to include; payment of promotion and hazards allowances, Provision of adequate hospital equipment and proper remuneration for Nurses and Midwives across public health facilities in the State.

The Association lamented what it termed, discrimination amongst various professional bodies within the State health sector, as it relates to adjustments in salary structure by the State Government.

According to the Union leaders, the strike takes effect from 12:00am Friday, 31st of January 2025, until when their demands are met by the Ondo State Government.
