Bauchi Education: UNICEF Advocates Digital Nigeria learning passport in Schools

Students in Bauchi State with Tablets for Digital Learning advocated by UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF), Bauchi Field office has advocated for the Government to key into the use of Nigeria Learning Passport, an online platform designed to provide accessible, quality education to Nigerian Students across all levels, particularly in remote areas.

The UNICEF Education specialist, Abdurahman Ado made this known during a media dialogue when he led a team of Journalists to some schools that were selected for piloting the programme in Toro Local Government Area.

Miyan Barkate Central Primary School is among the nine schools in Toro Local Government that the project was piloted, with twenty two Tablets each out of about 511 Primary and Secondary Schools in the Local Government.

While interacting with the children in primary four (4) who were seen using the Tablets, they confessed that, they understand learning better with the Tablets.

However, the key tasks for Bauchi State Government identified by UNICEF, is to transform digital learning for every child in Bauchi, procurement of more Tablets and developing local contents, Monitoring and capacity strengthening of Teachers, strengthening ICT in Schools, providing securities and Electricity in schools for optimal use of the Tablets.

Some representatives from the ministry of Education, Local Government Education department commented on the initiatives and admitted the challenges assuring of Government efforts towards the program.

According to the UNICEF Education specialist, Abdurahman Ado, as the 2025 International Day of Education Theme is: AI and Education: Human Agency in an Automated World, this means that it’s time for Nigeria Government to join the rest of the world to key into digital learning in all schools in a bid to address poor learning outcomes among learners.
