Nasarawa Police detain 12 suspected kidnappers, 29 others for various crimes

The Police in Nasarawa State say 12 kidnap suspects and 29 other persons are in their custody for offences commited in January 2025.

State Police Commissioner, Shetima Mohammed-Jauro made this public in Lafia at a News conference held to highlight the achievements of his Command

The Police Commissioner said some of the arrests were made based on tips received from the public.

He cited a case in Akwanga, where three kidnappers were apprehended and their victim rescued unhurt.

The Commissioner said they all confessed to the crime.

The Commissioner also said the command arrested 29 other suspects for various offences within the first month of the year including a 33-year-old man who severed his wife’s wrist, eight suspects for homicide, six for armed robbery, 12 for cultism, two for rape, and one in connection with drugs peddling.

He listed items recovered as exhibits to include two firearms, nine motorcycles and two rounds of live ammunition.

Mohammed-Jaurosaid that the command also arrested five members of an illegal group under the name Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), who allegedly tortured a 20-year-old man to death on allegation of theft and dumped the remains in Laminga Village, Nasarawa Local Government Area.

The CP assured the public that the Police Command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
