The Niger State Police Command says it has taken custody of a 26-year-old farmer, Umar Mohammed, for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl in Bangi, Mariga Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the spokesman of the police, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, the incident occurred on January 27 at about 9 pm and was reported to officers at Bangi Division.
Abiodun explained that this led to the arrest of Mohammed, an unmarried farmer from Farar-Doka village, following a direct complaint that he defiled the child on January 26 at about 8:30 pm.
The police image maker further revealed that the six-year-old victim had been sent on an errand to a nearby shop but returned late and in tears.

Abiodun stated that Mohammed accosted the child on her way back from the shop, took her to a nearby bush, and committed the crime.
The victim was taken to the General Hospital in Bangi for medical attention, while Mohammed was arrested and taken in for questioning.
The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
