There is security build up in Amagu Nkalaha, a local community in Ebonyi State, after suspected gunmen brutally killed ten male adults on Sunday.
State Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya, told Journalists in Abakaliki that security operatives have opened investigation into the attack, while a special squad is on the trail of the suspected attackers.
Though CP Uche-Anya could not categorically state the cause of the violent attack on the community, she however recalled the incident that happened in December 2024 where herders’ cattle were killed, suggestive of the direction security agents may be looking at.
A native, Godwin Ogbu, calls the attack “a genocide” and wants government to urgently intervene to save the locals.
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru describes the kiilling as “a flagrant disregard to the sanctity of human life”, directing security agents to immediately go after those behind the attack.
The Ebonyi government notes that violent attacks in the area is reoccurring, warning that the worrisome situation should not be allowed to degenerate.
“The attack which is not the first time in the area is worrisome and a source of concern to the government and people of the State.”
No group has claimed responsibility for the Amagu 10 massacre, but local village sources blame suspected herdsmen for their latest pains.
