Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu

For years, many rural communities in Cross River State have remained without electricity, relying on lanterns and generators for light.

That reality is set to change, as the state government has taken delivery of 10,000 solar home systems to provide reliable power to underserved areas.

This follows the government’s fulfillment of its 30 percent counterpart funding for the Federal Rural Electrification Agency’s mini-grid power project.

For thousands of residents in rural Cross River, the absence of electricity has meant limited economic opportunities, increased costs for fuel, and restricted access to modern conveniences.

The deployment of the 10,000 solar home systems is expected to improve living conditions, support small enterprises, and enhance overall community development.

Receiving the shipment on behalf of the Governor, Francis Ekpo, Director General of the Cross River State Electrification Agency, described the initiative as a crucial step in the state’s rural electrification drive.

For communities that have long awaited development, these solar home systems offer not just electricity, but a pathway to economic and social transformation.
