Court stops APC ward congresses in Bayelsa as members adopt Consensus arrangement in most states

A state high court restraining order has denied APC faithful in Bayelsa State the opportunity to join their counterpart across the country to elect new ward executives.

Caretaker Secretary of Bayelsa APC, Martins Alabor who spoke to ait. live in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital however expressed regrets over the development, blaming it on individuals in the party whose aim, he said was to create disunity.

Reacting to the botched congress, another APC Chieftain, Somkime Blankson, described the scenario as an unfortunate situation that could still be resolved, provided the leadership of the party in the State would be ready to put its house in order and address issues of grievances among members.
Meanwhile, the exercise was held in most states of the federation in compliance with the directive of the National caretaker committee in the majority of the wards visited.


There was relative peace in most of the wards as party members conducted themselves in an orderly manner.


A consensus arrangement was also adopted by the leadership of the party to produce new executives while the election was adopted where necessary.
Stakeholders in Ekiti State were also advised to work in harmony to achieve the much-desired peace required to build a strong and robust political party structure in Ekiti state.


The chairman of the committee for the ward congresses in Edo state, Chris Oghenechovwen, said the leadership of APC in Edo state decided to adopt consensus after several meetings with party members who all agreed to adopt the process that will produce the next executives at the ward levels.

In Nasarawa State, the Chairman of the State Ward Congress Committee, Abdullahi Abbas, commended the unity among members and supporters of the ruling APC, for adopting the consensus model for the ward congresses.


There was controversy in the exercise in Osun State as some members who belong to a group called The Osun Progressives, held direct primary to elect new ward executives against the earlier consensus arrangement agreed by the party.

A member of the party Gboyega Adelabu and a Senator Representing Osun Central, Ajibola Bashir, who monitored the Congress in some other wards where the consensus arrangement was adopted in Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas of the state, said Saturday’s exercise was hitch-free and devoid of rancor as envisaged by some party leaders.

Elsewhere in Kwara State, members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, across the 16 local government areas adopted the consensus arrangement in the ward congresses that took place in all the 193 wards of the state in compliance with the directive of the National caretaker committee

The exercise witnessed a large turnout of party faithful in many of the wards monitored by ait. live saw members of the party conducting themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner.

The Chairman of the State APC Congress Committee in Enugu State, Ijiomah Aridiogbu, said the cordiality displayed by Party faithful is an indication that there is hope for APC to take over governance in the State in 2023.

Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Godfrey Onyeama were part of the Congress at their various electoral wards.
