The South South Zone of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP has announced the suspension of its zonal secretary, Felix Omemu.

His suspension follows a motion by Martin Amaewhule of the Rivers State House of Assembly at Saturday’s South South Zonal Executive Meeting, in Benin City, Edo State.

Members of the Executive Committee were in Benin City to deliberate on issues affecting the party in the zone.

Addressing the committee, PDP National Vice Chairman, South South, Dan Orbih, said the internal crisis plaguing the party has to be addressed head on.

Part of the resolutions reached is the suspension of the PDP South South Zonal Secretary, Felix Omemu over alleged gross misconduct.

This follows a motion by a party leader from Rivers State, Martin Amaewhule and seconded by the member representing Ogoja and Yala Federal Constituency in Cross Rivers State, Godwin Offiono.

Immediately after the announcement of Omemu’s suspension, George Turnah was sworn in as Acting Secretary of the PDP in the South South.

Of the six South South States, only Akwa Ibom was absent from the Zonal Executive Committee Meeting.

Other decisions reached include; Approval of Zoning Committee to be chaired by Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe; Adoption of Zoning Formula which will guide the contest for party offices in the upcoming elections in the zone with Edo state to retain chairmanship while secretary’s position is zoned to Cross River State.

The meeting also agreed that the Zonal Elective Congress should hold in Calabar, Cross River State on February 22, 2025.

AIT News reached out to the National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba for comments on the development, but he has yet to respond.
